Tanager tennis team beats Brandon Valley The Tanager girls varsity tennis team defeated Brandon Valley 8-1 in the opening home meet on Sept. 3. In a scheduling change, the girls played doubles first and all three VHS varsity doubles teams were victorious.
At No. 1 Tracey Walworth and Anna Ristic won 10-6. The No. 2 team of Katie Talley and Lindsey Iverson quickly defeated their opponents 10-1. Laura Doohen and Vanessa Noonan had another solid 10-6 win at No. 3.
In singles competition, Tracey Walworth held on to win 11-9 at the No. 1 spot against Kari Schulz who had edged out Walworth in a match last season. Anna Ristic had a relatively easy 10-4 win at No. 2. Katie Talley had a 10-3 loss against a very competent opponent at No. 3. Lindsey Iverson had a 10-7 win at No. 4. Playing No. 5 and 6 respectively, Vanessa Noonan and Laura Doohen both posted decisive 10-3 wins.
Playing junior varsity exhibition matches were Hannah Gehm, Maya Ristic, and Victoria Collins. Gehm and Ristic both had wins.
The Tanagers hosted Madison Sept. 8, traveled to Yankton on Sept. 10, and traveled to Brookings on Sept. 11 to play in a triangular against Brookings and Rapid City Stevens.
