Vermillion loses to EP-J 51-53 on Sept. 1 by Vicky Lio On Sept. 1, the Tanagers Varsity Girls Basketball team battled Elk-Point Jefferson (EP-J), the number two ranked team, in a game that resulted in a 51-53 loss.
During the game, Amanda Iverson scored 23 points. Iverson also had six rebounds.
Nancy Heine scored six points and had three assists. Shorey Tuetken had seven rebounds and eight assists. Laura Burcham and Jana Prasek scored two points each.
Coach Doug Tuetken was disappointed with the size of the loss. EP-J held a 28-20 lead over Vermillion at the half, but the Tanagers missed a few chances to lessen that gap, the coach said.
But in reviewing tapes of the game, he found many things that the Vermillion athletes did right.
The team will continue to work defensively and build confidence with their shooting.
The next game will be against Sioux Falls Lincoln at home on Saturday, Sept. 12. Freshman will begin play in the ABC Tournament at 4:30 p.m. This game was not previously scheduled, and therefore not listed on the calendar.
