Actors needed for One-Room School Open auditions for a readers' theatre presentation of The One-Room School will be held at the Washington Street Arts Center, 202 Washington Street on Wednesday, Oct. 14, beginning at 7 p.m.
"We can use up to eight readers," said Clare Denton, the project's producer who will conduct the auditions. No preparation is necessary — just come to the Arts Center Wednesday evening.
Kenneth Robbins developed the script for The One-Room School from over 100 stories and remembrances provided by South Dakotans who attended or taught in one-room schools throughout the state.
"The one-room school legacy in South Dakota is impressive," Robbins stated. "It is amazing how many productive and successful citizens of this state began their formal education in a one-room school. The institution is a romantic and nostalgic one. We are certain The One-Room School will evoke all kinds of positive memories within the Vermillion area community."
The One-Room School is a special fund raising project of the South Dakota Humanities Foundation. Performance will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Farber Hall, Historic Old Main on The University of South Dakota campus. The Vermillion Area Arts Council is the local coordinator.
