Almquist, Schulte reign over D-Days University of South Dakota students Mary Jo Almquist of Watertown was crowned the 85th Miss Dakota and Jason Schulte of Parker the 12th Mr. Dakota during coronation ceremonies following the annual Coyote Capers Variety Show on Friday evening, Sept. 25 in Slagle Hall Auditorium on the USD campus.
Almquist and Schulte presided over the Dakota Days parade and the homecoming football game on Saturday evening during festivities at USD this weekend.
Mary Jo, daughter of John and Corinne Almquist of Watertown, is editor-in-chief of USD's Volante and chair of the Panhellenic Council Rush. A mass communication major, she is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta freshman honor society, the USD Athletic Board of Control, the Mortar Board, the Coyote Orientation Team, Student Ambassadors and Guidon.
Jason, the son of Ron Schulte of Parker, is the Student Association president. A political science and speech communication double major, Jason is also a Coyote Orientation Team Leader, Inter-fraternity Council Public Relations chair and was the Student Senator of the Year. A member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity, he has received the SAE Outstanding Member Award, the Taylor Scholar and Dance Marathon dancer. He has also been involved with the Big Pal/Little Pal Program, the Political Science League, College Democrats, Adopt-A-Highway, and miscellaneous community service activities.
