Crofton falls to Vermillion freshmen The Vermillion freshman football team upped its record to 7-0 with a 34-7 victory over Crofton, NE. Crofton struck first blood running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. After that, it was all Vermillion. Thad Roche scored the first touchdown on a 62 yard run with Corey Beach catching the two point conversion from Kris Hoffman. Roche would score again in the first quarter on a 4 yard run giving Vermillion a 14-7 lead that stood until the third quarter. In the third quarter, Roche scored on a 14 yard run to up the score to 20-7. Roche scored on a 5 yard run in the fourth quarter and Eric Richord powered in the two point conversion. Roche also tackled a 55 yard touchdown run to put Vermillion up 34-7.

Defensively for Vermillion: Dave Hanson 13 tackles, Roche 12, Dan Stroeh 7, Clint Christensen 7, Andrew Knutson 6, Oliver Hope 5.

Rushing: Roche 19/209 5TD, Hoffman 10/48, Hanson 6/18, Richord 7/18, Luiz Byers 1/5, Hope 5/1, John Holoch 1/-1.

Receiving: Roche 1/11, Beach 1/3.

Passing: Hoffman 2/6/1/0 14 yards.

The Vermillion freshman football team finished its season Oct. 15 with a 24-0 victory over Sioux Falls Washington upping the record to 8-0. Thad Roche scored three times and rushed for 236 yards. Roche's first touchdown came on the opening series and was an eight yard run, which was set up by an 81 yard run a few plays before. Dave Hanson scored the two point conversion. The second touchdown was a two yard run by Roche with Kris Hoffman scoring on the conversion. The final touchdown was a Roche five yard run with Clint Christensen catching the conversion from Hoffman.

Vermillion's defense caused seven Warrior turnovers. Leading the way was Eric Richord with 2 interceptions, followed by Oliver Hope 1, and Hanson 1; also Brett Jepsen, Eric Rasmussen and Christensen all recovered fumbles. Leading tacklers were Hanson with 9, followed by Roche 7, Ray O'Conner 5, Richord 5, Hoffman 4, and Andrew Knutson 4.
