Frosh shut out Yankton

Frosh shut out Yankton The Vermillion freshman football team upped its record to 6-0 with a 30-0 victory over Yankton.

Vermillion scored on its first offensive play with Thad Roche running 68 yards for the touchdown. Dave Hanson scored on the two-point conversion.

Vermillion struck again in the first quarter with a Roche one-yard run. The two-point conversion failed. Yankton and Vermillion's defense both played tough the middle two quarters.

Vermillion opened up the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown run by Roche. Kris Hoffman rounded out the scoring with a 38-yard run and he also scored on the conversion.

Defensively for Vermillion, Hanson had 17 tackles, followed by Roche 15, Eric Ramussen 7, Dan Stroeh 7, Andrew Knutson 7, Oliver Hope 6, Clint Christensen 5, Brett Jepsen 4 and Casey Gale 4.

Rushing: Roche 28/191, Hoffman 7/57, Hanson 6/25, Hope 3/22, Luiz Byers 1/4, John Holoch 1/1, Eric Richord 5/-4.

Receiving: Brett Mockler 1/20, Christensen 1/2, Gale 1/5.

Passing: Hoffman 3/5/0/27.

Vermillion played Crofton, NE on Oct. 8 and will play Sioux Falls Washington Oct. 15.
