Johnson will visit Spirit Mound in celebration of federal support

Johnson will visit Spirit Mound in celebration of federal support Senator Tim Johnson will climb Spirit Mound, one of the few remaining sites visited by the famed Lewis and Clark expedition.

The senator's visit, planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m., comes after the announcement that before adjourning for the year, Congress authorized the purchase of Spirit Mound by the federal government to help local partners preserve the historic site.

Johnson will be joined by board members of the non-profit organization that will oversee the restoration project.

Spirit Mound is located on Highway 19, eight miles north of Vermillion.
