Lady Tanagers defeat Alcester by Vicky Lio The Vermillion High School girls basketball team dominated in the game against Alcester-Hudson Sept. 22 with a margin of victory of 42 points.
After the half-time score of 32-14, Vermillion scored another 31 points and held Alcester down to 7 points, bringing the game to an end with a final score of 63-21.
The leading scorers on this night were: Amanda Iverson, 18 points; Shorey Tuetken, 10 points; Melissa O'Connor, 8 points; Sarah Mollet, 6 points; and Leslie Larson, 6 points.
Iverson also gathered in 9 rebounds, 7 of which were offensive. O'Connor had 6 rebounds; Mollett had 4 and Larson had 3.
Tuetken made six assists.
The Tanagers were able to use a number of different play combinations during the game.
"Our pressure on the perimeter was solid," Coach Doug Tuetken said. "We also did a much better job of catching the rebounds."
The Lady Tanagers will play Parkston Oct. 4 at Lennox in the Lady Bird Classic. The game will begin at 8 p.m.
