Lady Tanagers win 64-34 over Parker by Vicky Lio The Tanager girls varsity basketball team upped their record to 10-7 with a 64-34 win over Parker last Monday night in the Vermillion High School gym.
"We put together the best first half of basketball we've played all season on both sides of the court (offense and defense)," said coach Doug Tuetken.
At the end of the first half, the score was 33-7, Vermillion.
In the third quarter, Vermillion scored 15 points and Parker scored 9.
Both teams scored 18 points in the final quarter.
Amanda Iverson led the Tanagers in scoring with 25 points. Shorey Tuetken scored 11 points and made 9 assists.
Sarah Mollet scored 10 points. Melissa O'Conner and Iverson both caught 9 rebounds.
Parker's leading scorers were Michelle Steiner with 12 points, and Eliza Leloux with 11 points.
"I was very pleased with our defensive effort throughout the entire game," Tuetken said. "We will need to continue this type of defensive play if we are going to have success in the district tournament."
The Tanagers will open their post-season play in the District 8A tournament in Elk Point Nov. 3. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Tanagers hosted Wakonda Oct. 29 in their regular season finale in the VHS gym. This was also Parents' Night.
