Popular songs were featured by bands at contest The 1998 Pride of Vermillion Marching Band completed its competition season at the Quad State Field Marching Contest at the DakotaDome on Saturday. The bands in the competition presented a glorious repertoire of modern tunes — from jazz and movie themes to Beatles songs.
The 1998 Pride of Vermillion Marching Band completed its competition season at the contest Saturday by placing third in Class 3A behind Brandon Valley and Madison.
"We were very pleased with our performance Saturday," said John Alpers, director of the band at Vermillion High School.
"Besides getting third place, we also raised our scores from last year about 12 points."
The Pride of Vermillion also performed in two area parades. The band received third place in Class A at the Dakota Days Parade behind Beresford and South Sioux City, and received second place in Class A at the Huron University Homecoming parade behind Redfield.
"All in all, it was a great season," added Alpers. "I hope the rest of year goes as well as the beginning has."
The Pride of Vermillion finishes the marching season on Monday, Oct. 19, with the Music Boosters' Apple Polishing Concert at 7:30 p.m.
