Sorensen new manager of Abbott Travel in Vermillion

Sorensen new manager of Abbott Travel in Vermillion by M. Jill Sundstrom Sarah Sorensen has been named manager of Abbott Travel in Vermillion.

She replaces Barb Dunn.

�Barb had come here from the Pierre office,� Sorensen said. �After a couple of years in Vermillion she decided to return to Pierre to work.�

Abbott Travel specializes in organizing travel plans for its clients, whether they are going on a vacation or business trip.

�We handle airline and rail tickets, both in the United States and abroad,� Sorensen said. �We also work with car rentals, sight-seeing tours, package tours and cruises. We are here for people who want to go on trips without worrying about the details.�

The business also helps people who have questions about international travel.

�The State Department updates us with information via computer,� Sorensen said. �We always know what is needed as far as visas, passports and immunizations are concerned.�

Although she enjoys her work, it isn�t always easy.

�The challenge comes when you arrive at work in the morning and there�s an airline strike, some kind of disaster or an airline has pulled out of a nearby city,� she said. �But you have to do the best you can to help the clients with alternative travel plans. It�s just part of the job.�

Sorensen received a specialist degree from McConnell Travel School in Minneapolis, MN. She worked at Thrifty Car Rental in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area before returning to her home town of Vermillion. She has been with Abbott Travel for three years. She lives in Vermillion with her daughter, Mattea, 18 months.

Melody Bonzer is the travel consultant who works with Sorensen at the Vermillion office. Abbott Travel, owned by Bob Abbott, also has offices in Sioux Falls, Pierre, Aberdeen and Yankton.
