Tanager JV tames EP-J Huskies Oct. 17 by David Lias The VHS JV Basketball Tanager JV rolled over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 46-27 in girls basketball Oct. 17 at McCook Lake.
This basketball action was part of the Dakota Valley Classic tourney. Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 11-2.
"This was a very satisfying win for our girls," said Vermillion JV Coach Kelly Fischbach. "EP-J was one of our two losses and we didn't feel that we played well in the previous game. We had something to prove to ourselves and EP-J."
The Tanager JV jumped in front 14-4 after the opening period, led 27-14 at halftime, and then held a lead of 33-23 going into the final period.
Several significant individual efforts contributed to the win.
"Elk Point was undefeated coming into this game, but the strength of our schedule really paid off," Coach Fischbach said. "Our girls have been working very hard in practice and that shows, also. It was nice to have all the girls in all four quarters since there was no varsity game. We were able to switch defense a lot, and that really kept EP-J off balance all night. I'm very proud of the way we played."
