The Agony of Defeat Jay Merrigan, senior quarterback for the Vermillion High School football team, pauses on the turf of the DakotaDome Tuesday to reflect on the loss of the Tanagers to West Central, 13-7 in the Region 2 championship game. The loss dashed Vermillion's hopes to eventually be crowned Class 11A football champions this year, and also marked the end of Merrigan's high school football career.
