USD cross country dominates South Dakota was the dominant team at the North Central Pre-Regional cross-country meet held Saturday in Aberdeen.
There were no team points kept, but the Coyote men and women each placed three runners in the top-six. The Coyotes, who host the USD Invitational this Friday, return to Aberdeen Nov. 7 for the North Central Region qualifying meet.
The USD women had the top-three finishers in the 92-member field. Molly Wedel, a freshman from Spencer, IA, took first in 22:46. Tina Fenske was second in 22:58 and Stefanie Senn finished third in 23:00.
Jennifer Carpenter placed 13th in 23:35 and Aimee Dunlop was 21st in 23:57.
There wre 97 entrants in the men's field and USD's Matt Hoyt captured first with a time of 32:05. Chad Feeldy and South Dakota State's Mark McKeown finished neck-and-neck right behind Hoyt with a time of 32:06.
Mike Gade placed sixth in 32:18, followed by Joel Fenske, 17th, 33:06; David Farnsworth, 18th, 33:07; Mark Nelson, 25th, 33:35; and Derek Vargas, 33rd, 34:11.
Hoyt and Wedel were named North Central Conference Cross-Country Athletes of the Week for their performances in Aberdeen.
