VHS Frosh up record with victory The Vermillion High School freshman football team upped its record to 4-0 with a 29-7 win over Sioux City East on Sept. 22.
Vermillion scored in its first possession on a 65-yard touchdown run by Thad Roche with Kris Hoffman kicking the extra point.
East then came back to tie the score in the second quarter on a 1-yard run and extra point.
Vermillion opened the third quarter with a 10-yard score by Roche with Clint Christensen catching the 2-point conversion. Vermillion scored in the fourth quarter on a Roche 47-yard run with the point after going wide right.
The defense tacked on a touchdown of their own with Dave Hansen intercepting the ball and returning it 80 yards for the touchdown. Hoffman scored the 2-point conversion.
Defensively for Vermillion, Hansen and Roche had 12 tackles, Andrew Knutson 6, Eric Rasmussen 5, Adam Passick 4, Oliver Hope 4.
Rushing: Roche 22-216; Hoffman 7-16; Hansen 7-42; Eric Richord 6-21; Hope 2-18.
Receiving: Ben Bazemore 1-2; Clint Christensen 1-3.
Passing: Hoffman 2-9, 5 yards, 1 interception.
The freshmen played Lennox on Sept. 24 and Yankton on Oct. 1. They will host Crofton, NE, on Oct. 8 at home and on Oct. 15 they travel to Sioux Falls to play Washington.
