Boxers compete The Vermillion Boxing Team (VBT) under Coach Marc Zimiga held its first boxing match Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Vermillion National Guard Armory. Three of Vermillion's boxers, Thomas Barnes, Terry Barnes and Oliver Hope, got matches. Although only one took home a medal, all were winners in the eyes of the VBT's fans and Coach Zimiga. "All the guys gave their best effort and were good sports; that's most important to me," said Zimiga.
Thomas Barnes (10) opened the evening for the team with a hard fought bout which went the third round distance. Both Thomas and opponent Tyler Cochran (Brotherhood Boxing) gave everything they had with Cochran taking the victory. Second bout for the VBT saw Terry Barnes slugging his way through three rounds against Lucas Brave (Todd County Boxing Team) unfortunately falling short of taking home a medal. Oliver Hope, rounded off the team's night against Andy Annett (Brotherhood Boxing). After a quick first round knock down, Oliver coasted to a unanimous decision.
The VBT would like to thank all the parents and volunteers for their hard work which made our match possible. As usual we would also like to express our appreciation to our generous sponsors: Quality Motors, Kalins, Dr. Gregory, Todd's Electric, Westgate Mobile Home Village, Bunyan's, Deb's Hallmark, Fast Auto Glass, First National Bank, The Index, and Tigert Art Gallery.
