Letters Chuang, orchestra deserve ovation
To the Editor:
Monday evening, Nov. 16, I attended the concert by the USD orchestra and violin soloist. The performance was great.
The soloist, Huan-Ching Chuang, played the Mendels-
sohn Violin Concerto. She gave to the concerto a sensitive reading. She surmounted the technical challenge with ease. The audience gave her a standing ovation.
The Symphony in C Minor, by Beethoven, was well played. Mr. John Thomson was an able conductor, bringing out the best in the players. It was good to see the large number of string players. Congratulations to the string players for their fine work.
Some members of the orchestra were from the community.
The string teacher, John Thomson, Rick Rongnstad from USD, and Karen Lipp from the community deserve our vote of appreciation in the preparation of the students. (My apologies if I forgot someone.)
I felt the orchestra deserved an ovation for their good work.
This performance speaks well for the music department. Many thanks to all the players in the orchestra and to the supporting staff.
