Pheasants shot down by Vermillion by David Lias The VHS freshmen Tanagers shot down the Parker Pheasants 45-17 in girls basketball Oct. 26 at Vermillion as the winners steadily pulled away in the contest.
Corey Engstrom had 15 points and 7 rebounds for Vermillion. Alison Obr had 10 points and Kayla Larson added 8 points.
"Engstrom played an aggressive game of basketball," said Vermillion Coach Troy Terronez. "When one player comes out with that intensity, it seems to spread!"
The Tanagers took the lead 12-6 after the first quarter, and margins of 10-2 and 12-5 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 34-13 going into the final period.
"The balanced scoring in this game shows how well these girls play together," said Coach Terronez.
Vermillion improved its season mark to 11-4.
A number of excellent individual efforts highlighted the win.
"Abbey Moore had 6 points, 3 rebounds and did a nice job in the post," Coach Terronez said. "Meggie Donnelly also showed great leadership at the point position with 4 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Ashley Thompson added 2 points and 1 assist."
