South Dakota Public Radio sets its fall pledge record Thanks to loyal listeners, South Dakota Public Radio set a record for fall funding during October's Great Plains, Great Radio Fundraising Challenge with Nebraska Public Radio.
Listeners pledged a total of $61,907, well above the goal of $55,000. Plus, out of 947 pledges, 192 were new members.
The money will go to good use for programs and program services. The cost of SDPR programs, including listener favorites like Car Talk, Morning Edition and All Things Considered, is rising steeply this year. The generosity and loyalty of South Dakota Public Radio listeners will help ensure that the quality of programming at SDPR remains far above the crowd. Nebraska Public Radio inched by SDPR in the final days of the friendly competition to see which network reached its goal first, setting up a grudge match for fall 1999.
"SDPR is still a winner," says Larry Rohrer, director of radio, "and so are you, the listeners, because you came through to support quality programming."
South Dakota Public Radio offers a mix of commercial-free music, news and information found no where else on the airwaves. Audio from SDPR shows, as well as information about programming and the network, can be found on the South Dakota Public Broadcasting Web site at (www.sdpd.org).
