VHS freshmen trounce Harrisburg by David Lias The VHS freshmen Tanagers trounced the Harrisburg Freshmen 53-13 in girls basketball Oct. 23 at Harrisburg as the winners steadily pulled away in the contest.

Tessa Tuetken did an excellent job at point guard.

"She led the team with 12 points," said Vermillion Coach Troy Terronez. "Meryll Kennedy added 9 points. Ashley Thompson also had a great game defensively, and contributed 5 assists."

The Tanagers took the lead 12-4 after the first quarter, and margins of 15-4 and 12-4 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 39-12 going into the final period.

"The girls played well together," said Coach Terronez. "They picked up the intensity and didn't stop until the game was over."

Vermillion improved its season mark to 9-4.

Individual Stats, Vermillion: Scoring — Meggie Donnelly, 6; Ashley Bjorken, 6; Kayla Larsen, 4; Alison Obr, 4; Carrie Engstrom, 4; Abbey Moore and Ashley Thompson, 3; and Nikki Mollet, with 2 points and 4 rebounds.
