Clay County 4-H'ers recognized during annual event Four-H members, leaders and friends of 4-H were recognized Sunday, Nov. 22 at the annual Clay County 4-H Recognition Event held at the 4-H Center, Vermillion.
Friends of 4-H awards were presented to Scott Fratzke, Mike Waid, DVM, Ann Severson and Mary Waller. This award, sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, is presented to individuals and/or businesses for their support and cooperation with the Clay County 4-H Program.
The 4-H Meritorious Service Award was presented to Lorraine Swee for her continuous support of the Clay County 4-H Youth Program. This award is also sponsored by the Leaders Association.
Alumni awards were awarded to Curt Haakinson and Virginia Knutson of Vermillion, Todd Peterson of Sioux Falls and Christine Logue of Volin.
Five-year Clover awards were presented to the following 4-H Leaders: Marlys Larson, Iris Rydell, Lars Aga and Patricia Doohen, all of Vermillion. Ten-year Clover awards were awarded to Mary Haines of Vermillion and Dean Lindstrom of Beresford. Beth Bottolfson and Ann Haakinson, both of Vermillion, and Scott Jepsen of Meckling, were recognized as first year leaders.
Graduating member awards were presented to Robyn Danielson, Tim Ganschow, Lori Henderson, Becky Johnson, Will Kennedy, Lonna Larson, Tricia Lewison, Alison Nelsen and Shane O'Connor.
The Outstanding 4-H Club Award was sponsored by Community First State Bank. First place went to Coyote Cubs led by Joe and Jeanette Hubert and Mike and Kathy Lynch. Second place was awarded to the Young Producers 4-H Club led by Chuck and Nadeen Peterson and Joan Miller.
The Community Service Club Award and Traveling Plaque, sponsored by Vermillion Civic Council and Community First State Bank, was presented to the Country Gals and Guys 4-H Club led by Marlys Larson and Iris Rydell for first place. Second place was presented to the Clay County Cubs 4-H Club which is led by Robin Miskimins and Wendy Maury.
Four-H Record Book awards, sponsored by Community First State Bank, were awarded to Tony Hubert, Casey Carlson, Kyle Hubert, Emily Miller, Jackie Thomas, Stacey Joy, Nick Peterson, Evan Peterson, Zachary Holoch, Amanda Aga, Colette Joy, Kristin Johnson, Will Kennedy, Daniel Nelson, Chris Lynch, Rachel M. Nelson, Nina Joy and Tabitha Hubert.
The 4-H Conference Scholarship, sponsored by the Dillion Estate Fund and the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was presented to Leslie Larson of Vermillion.
Sweepstakes Awards, sponsored by the Clay County Youth Trust Fund, were awarded to the following members: Agriculture � Sandra Geuther � Beginner, Colette Joy � Junior, Tabitha Hubert � Senior; Personal Development � Kyle Hubert � Beginner, Dean Miller � Junior, Tabitha Hubert � Senior.
Horse Sweepstakes, sponsored by the Vermillion Saddle Club, were presented to Katie Sokolowski � Beginner, Megan Griffith � Junior and Will Kennedy � Senior.
Shooting Sports Sweepstakes were earned by Tyler Anglin � Beginner and Karrie Plate � Junior, Shooting Sport awards are sponsored by the Clay County Sportsmen's Club.
Farm Bureau awards were presented for participation in leadership, citizenship and safety to Nick Peterson � Junior and Leslie Larson � Senior.
The Helping Hands Award was presented to Will Kennedy and Robyn Danielson.
Consumer Preferred Beef Entries at the SD State Fair sponsored by the South Dakota Livestock Industry 4-H Trust Fund were presented to Harrison Hawley, Michaela Hawley, Adrianne Logue and Brett Logue.
Seven scholarships, sponsored by the Clay County Youth Trust Fund, were awarded to Lori Henderson, Lonna Larson, Alison Nelsen, Stephanie Lynch, James Furry, David Holoch and Melissa Lynch.
The Overall Home Economics awards were received by Leslie Larson and Tabitha Hubert. Lonna Larson was presented with the Overall Achievement Award.

Beginner Fashion Revue award was presented to Laura Aga and sponsored by Four Seasons and Alison Nelsen received the Senior Fashion Revue Award sponsored by the Clay County FCE Council. Nile Billings and Dean Miller were presented with the Junior Demonstration award sponsored by Glenwood Township and Annie Carlson was awarded the Beginner Demonstration Award sponsored by the Clay County FCE Council. Katie Strom was the recipient of the Senior Public Speaking Award and Angela Rydell received the Junior Public Speaking Award. Both awards are sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association.
The First Dakota Steer Classic Grand Champion Award, sponsored by First Dakota National Bank, was presented to Tricia Lewison of Vermillion.
Gift certificates were presented by the Southeastern South Dakota Cattlemen's Association and UCY Pork Producers for the use of beef or pork at the County 4-H Special Foods Contest. Awards went to Heather Heine, Theresa Ring, Stacey Miskimins, Alison Jensen, Ellen Kennedy, Dean Miller and Emily Miller.
Best Secretary's Record Book Award, which is sponsored by the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was awarded to Kelly Miskimins, Clay County Go Getters 4-H Club.
Ellen Kennedy, Jolly Juniorettes 4-H Club, received the Best Reporter's Scrapbook award.
Four-H members recognized for top sales in the annual Fruit Sale promotion were Rachel L. Nelson, David Jensen, Kyle Lindstrom, Sandra Geuther, Harrison Hawley and Brett Logue.
Individual and team members placing in the Top Ten at the 1998 South Dakota State Fair Judging Contests were recognized.
