Dave Lorenz named USD dean of students Dave Lorenz, a longtime University of South Dakota administrator with more than 25 years of service in higher education student services, has been named dean of students at The University of South Dakota, according to an announcement November 25 by USD President James W. Abbott.
"We are pleased Dave Lorenz will be our new dean of students. He has both the experience and the personality to relate to and work well with the members of our student body. His experience as director of admissions and director of financial aid and his tenure as associate dean of students, together with his longstanding commitment to USD, make him a good fit for this institution."
Lorenz, who has served as an associate dean of students at USD since 1991, was named to the position following a nationwide search. His appointment is subject to the approval of the South Dakota Board of Regents. Jean Morrow, who was was dean of students at USD from 1995 to 1998, left USD in June.
Lorenz will oversee the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Coyote Student Center, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, Residential Life, Student Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Career Development Center and Student Support Services.
"This is an exciting opportunity," said Lorenz. "We have outstanding students and I look forward to listening to their thoughts and considerations. We will have challenges ahead but we will also have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students at USD."
A native of Avon, Lorenz, who has worked at USD for 16 years, was director of Admissions from 1988 to 1996 and director of Student Financial Aid since 1996. Lorenz has a B.S. degree from The University of South Dakota � Springfield and an M.P.A. degree in public administration from The University of South Dakota.
At USD, Lorenz co-chairs the President's Committee on Student Success and the President's Task Force on Alcohol, Drug and Violence Prevention. He has served on various other university and statewide committees. He and his wife Jeaneite have two children: Arlo and Raychel.
