Tanager gymnasts defeat West Central Monday night the West Central Trojans came to Vermillion for a gymnastics duel. The Tanagers defeated the West Central Trojans 108.2 points to 96.8 points.
"The girls hit routines tonight really well," said Coach Mark Upward. "Give us our home court equipment and we do a lot better. We now just have to take that confidence and move it to other sites when we compete."
Anne Dambowy made a clean sweep by placing first in all five events. Dambowy was top in beam (6.4), floor (6.7), bars (7.4), vault (8.1) and all-around with a score of 28.6.
The rest of the competitors for Vermillion had great routines for the team, also. The Tanagers placed no less than three gymnasts in each of the four events. Lynn Lewison was second on bars (7.2). Laura Gors third (6.7) and Amy Schoellerman was fifth (6.2).
On vault, Gors was second (8.0) and Terri Upward third (7.8). The floor exercise was a clean sweep for the Tanagers with Dambowy first, Amber Reisdorph second (6.5), Vicky Lio third (6.4), Upward fourth (6.3) and Beth Pier was fifth (6.2).
The balance beam saw Gors finish third (6.1), Pier fourth (5.6) and Meganne Hovden and Tabby Hubert tied for fifth with 5.4 each. Dambowy, Hovden and Upward finished 1, 2 and 3 in the all-around competition with scores of 28.6, 24.5 and 25.2 respectively.
The next action for the Tanagers is Saturday when they travel to Mitchell for the Mitchell Invite.
