USD Theatre features student plays The Department of Theatre at USD will produce four student-directed one-act plays Dec. 9, 10, and 11 at 7 p.m. in Theatre I of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. The plays feature work by some of the finest writers of absurdist theatre, including The Lesson by Eugene Ionesco, Ohio Impromptu by Samuel Beckett, The Wasp by Steve Martin, and Mere Mortals by David Ives. In a largely comic, though sometimes frightening fashion, these plays explore issues of communication, power, death, and the family in an evening of entertainment that will move from the classroom to the family home to a steel girder fifty stories up on a construction site.
Audiences can expect the unexpected but will surely leave the theatre with something to reflect upon and having had a good belly laugh.
The student directors of this workshop production include undergraduates Si Issler and David Barari for The Wasp and The Lesson, respectively, and graduate students Kathryn Burton-Hollerman and Cameron Ulrich for Ohio Impromptu and Mere Mortals.
Tickets are $1 for USD students with ID and $2 for the general public. Tickets go on sale Monday, Dec. 7 and can be reserved by calling the USD Theatre Box Office at (605) 677-5400.
