USD women fall to Augustana, SDSU The South Dakota women's basketball team fell to Augustana and South Dakota State Saturday and Sunday in the DakotaDome, with the Coyotes falling to the Vikings (61-46) and Jackrabbits (68-54).
The Coyotes, who are 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the North Central Conference, host Concordia (NE) on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. USD travels to Northern Colorado and Nebraska-Omaha Jan. 2-3.
South Dakota, which trailed Augustana 30-18, at halftime, shot 28.8 percent from the field against the Vikings. USD's leading scorer was Kelly Gese with 15 points. Katrina Merrill had nine points and Maegan Prickett had eight points and five assists.
USD was outrebounded, 43-31, led by six boards apiece for Allycia Gerwing and Merrill.
The Coyotes faced a 38-18 halftime deficit to South Dakota State but rallied in the second half. During the final 20 minutes USD, which fell behind by 20 points at 48-28 at the 14:40 mark, stormed back and cut the margin to seven points at 51-44 with 9:19 left on a jumper by Gese. The Jackrabbits answered and outscored the Coyotes, 17-10, for the win.
Gese led USD with 20 points. Bethany Koehler had 13 points, while Alissa Koronkiewicz had 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Prickett added seven points and seven assists. The Coyotes shot 36.7 percent, including 43.8 in the second half. SDSU shot 48.3 percent and held a 39-33 edge in rebounds.
