7th- and 8th-grade gymnasts defeat Yankton on Monday The seventh- and eighth-grade Lady Tanager gymnasts defeated Yankton 73.9 to 64.0 last Monday night in a dual meet held at the Yankton Summit Center.
The Vermillion Tanager middle schoolers were led by seventh-grader Brittany Gilkyson. Gilkyson won the vault competition, 7.8, the uneven bars, 4.7, balance beam, 4.6, and all-around with a score of 21.1.
Other Tanager middle schoolers placing in the meet included Megan Deaver, vault, 4th, 6.5, floor exercise, 5th, 3.0, and balance beam, 1st, 4.6, and 3rd in the all-around, 17.1.
Jenna Gilkyson placed 4th on the vault with a score of 6.5, 3rd on the beam, 4.5, and 3rd on the bars, 3.6.
Sarah Gregg finished 3rd on bars, 3.6, Jenny Bremer was 4th on bars, 3.4, Carly Bernard finished 3rd on floor exercise, 3.7, and 2nd on beam, 4.5.
"It was great to see the girls compete so well against girls of the same age," said Coach Knutson. "These girls usually go against high school on the junior varsity meets."
This will end the junior high season for the Tanager middle schoolers. The other scheduled meet against Brandon Valley was cancelled when Brandon Valley couldn't field a team.
