Brunick, Deverell are ambassadors Bill Brunick of Brunick Furniture in Vermillion, and Cliff Deverell of Hy-Vee Food Store in Vermillion have been named as Legislative Ambassadors for the South Dakota Retailers Association. Brunick also serves on the association's board of directors.
The retailers association established the Legislative Ambassador program last year, in an effort to help foster closer ties between established, respected retailers and the Legislature.
As part of the program, three business people from each legislative district were invited by the association to host lawmakers at the association's 102nd Annual Banquet in Pierre Jan. 11, and to participate in a legislative briefing regarding retail issues which will be debated during this year's state legislative session.
SDRA Executive Director Jerry Wheeler said by giving retailers and legislators an opportunity to get better acquainted, the Legislative Ambassador program is of benefit to both retailers and lawmakers.
"We think this will give retailers a better understanding of the legislative process and let them know they can feel comfortable contacting their legislators about issues," said Wheeler. "At the same time, legislators now have someone they can contact to find out how the measure they're debating in Pierre will affect the people back at home. We think it's a positive program for everyone involved."
The South Dakota Retailers Association is a 3,800-member statewide business organization.
