Elk Point-Jefferson wins Winter Classic Tourney Elk Point-Jefferson won the second annual Southeast Area Volleyball Winter Classic in Vermillion on Jan. 9, finishing with a 3-0 record.
The Huskies defeated Parkston 15-11, 15-10, Lennox 16-14, 15-6 and Vermillion 15-4, 15-12 to claim the championship.
Parkston, Lennox, and West Central all ended the day with 2-1 records while Vermillion and Harrisburg were 0-3.
In the first match, Lennox defeated Harrisburg 15-5, 15-11. West Central handed Vermillion a 15-8, 15-10 defeat. Vermillion was topped by Jana Prasek with five points and one ace. Amanda Iverson added 6 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs. Shorey Tuetken hit 5 kills and set 7 assists. Laura Burcham served 3 aces and 4 points while Melissa Rydell blocked 2.
West Central handily beat Harrisburg 15-10, 15-10.
Elk Point-Jefferson outlasted Lennox 16-14 in the first game and then cruised to a 15-16 win in the second.
Parkston knocked off Vermillion 15-6, 15-13. The Tanagers were led by Tuetken with 6 points and 1 ace, 6 assists, and 5 digs. Laura Burcham totaled 6 points and 4 digs and Megan Tolsma scored 4. Melissa Rydell and Kelly Peterson hit 3 kills each.
Lennox and West Central went three games before Lennox prevailed 13-15, 15-12, 15-7.
Parkston took Harrisburg to three games and scored a 9-15, 16-14, 15-11 win.
Against Elk Point-Jefferson, Vermillion was led by Tuetken with 4 points and 1 ace, 2 kills, 13 set assists, and 2 blocks. Jana Prasek added 4 points on 4 aces. Amanda Iverson hit 7 kills and blocked 2 and dug 7. Laura Burcham killed 3 and dug 5. Melissa Rydell and Kelly Peterson each blocked 2.
