Endowed fund set for athletics

Endowed fund set for athletics An endowed fund has been created within The University of South Dakota Foundation to support the USD Track and Field, and Cross Country intercollegiate athletic programs.

The "Track and Field Cross Country Alumni Endowment" was established by a core group of USD track and field and cross country coaches, former coaches and alumni in honor of all past and present Coyote track and field and cross country coaches and competitors at USD. The group is seeking additional contributions from people interested in the programs. Within the first two weeks of a direct-mail fundraising appeal, many additional gifts have already been received.

The endowed fund will be used for a variety of expenses benefiting individual athletes in the two sports. These expenses include competition clothing, shoes and equipment, travel expenses for intercollegiate competition, scholarships and other appropriate expenses.

Initial members of the committee overseeing use of the fund include USD Head Track and Field Coach David Gottsleben as well as alumni members Cecilia Fitzsimmons of Yankton and Stephen Williamson of Kansas City, MO.

The mission of the USD Foundation is to provide financial resources for the university, in order to increase the excellence of the educational experience provided by USD, with the goal of creating the best small public university in the nation emphasizing excellence in teaching.
