Freshmen lose, despite many strong team efforts

Freshmen lose, despite many strong team efforts The VHS Freshmen Tanagers lost to the Yankton High School Freshmen Bucks 42-26 in boys basketball Jan. 23 at Vermillion.

"We made Yankton play the type of game we wanted, however, we were unable to do the things we needed to win the ball game," said Vermillion Coach Devin Schwiesow.

The Tanagers fell behind 9-4 after the first quarter, trailed 20-12 after the second quarter, and then trailed 27-18 going into the final period.

Vermillion saw its record fall to 4-3, while YHS upped its mark to 6-0.

Even with the loss, the Tanagers had several good individual efforts.

"Defensively, we held a good Yankton ball club to our goal," Coach Schwiesow said. "Offensively, we were unable to get any momentum and shooting just over 50 percent from the line really hurt us."
