Slow start hurts Tanagers' efforts The Vermillion Tanagers were shot down by the Lennox Varsity Orioles 60-42 in boys basketball Jan. 22 at Lennox after getting off to a slow start.
Vermillion's Bo Nelson scored 11 points.
Lennox jumped in front 22-4 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 15-9 in the second quarter. VHS had an advantage of 14-12 in the third period to cut the deficit to 49-27 going into the final period.
The Orioles ended up hot from three-point range, canning 8 of 12 from long distance.
"We really got off to a slow start," said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. "Offensively, we wanted to work the ball for a good shot, but we didn't take advantage of what the defense gave us."
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 4-5, while Lennox improved to 7-3.
VHS sank 7 of 11 free throw attempts. The Tanagers hit 10 of 35 field goals, while Lennox was 24 of 36 from the field. The Orioles hit 4 of 10 free throw attempts.
