St. Agnes to celebrate Catholic Schools Week St. Agnes School will celebrate Catholic Schools Week Jan. 31-Feb. 6 with a variety of activities following the theme "Faith for a Brighter Future."
The week begins Sunday, Jan. 31 with an all-school Mass at 10:30 a.m. Students in kindergarten through grade five will do the liturgy.
The PTSA turkey dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. Children five years old and younger are free.
An auction will be held at 12:30 p.m., and a silent auction will be held throughout the turkey dinner.
"Let Our Light Shine by Helping Others" is the theme for Monday, Feb. 1. Students will be allowed to "dress down" if they donate new mittens, gloves, stocking hats, winter headbands, scarves or boots for a needy child from age 3 to 12. The items will be presented to the Vermillion Food Pantry for distribution.
A special reading program will also be held from 10:20 to 11:20 a.m. Each teacher will pick their favorite children's book to read to each class. The Counseling Department will also provide a teachers' lunch.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, students will be treated to a magician's visit, to "Let Your Magic Shine Through Your Faith." Parents are welcome to attend the PTSA-sponsored "Fakebelieve" assembly from 10:50 to 11:45 a.m.
Parents are also welcome to attend a talent show from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Following the theme "Catholic Schools Faith Light Up the World," Wednesday's activity features a collection day. Each child can bring a collection from home to display from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parents are invited to view the displays throughout the day.
Also on Feb. 3, parents, grandparents or friends of the students are invited to spend time in the classroom from 1 to 3 p.m. For preschool students on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the visitors may come on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
"Pray and Play for a Brighter Future" is the theme on Thursday, Feb. 4. For what is also known as Spirit Day, the students will have a period from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. to have fun in the snow. They can even bring their sleds. The PTSA will provide hot chocolate and popcorn following the fun in the snow from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 5 is the day for "Launching Our Faith Toward a Brighter Future," beginning with a 9 a.m. Mass.
The annual balloon launch will be held at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are still needed to help blow up balloons from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
A beach party will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in the gym. Students can bring shorts to change into, along with sun glasses, beach towels and other beach accessories.
Catholic Schools Week is designed to help children appreciate fellowship, reach out to others in the community, strengthen their faith and learning, and give thanks for their opportunities.
