Swopes are 3-0 in tourney The Vermillion Swopes sixth-grade girls basketball team competed in the Beresford Round Robin Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 16 and came out on top with a 3-0 record. Vermillion first saw action against Wakonda. Jumping out ahead and leading by as much as 12 points, the Swopes fought a persistent Warrior team to come away with a 30-20 victory.
Coming out strong in the second game of the day against Beresford, the Swopes pulled ahead 13-4 at halftime. With a balanced scoring attack Vermillion went on to a 27-19 win.
Falling behind 6-0 early in the first quarter against West Lyon, the Swopes found themselves having to come from behind to win the last contest 18-16. Trailing the entire game, Vermillion outscored and held West Lyon scoreless in the fourth quarter to come away with the third victory of the day.
