Tanagers trounce the Cavaliers 93-56 The Vermillion Tanagers trounced the Bon Homme Cavaliers 93-56 in boys basketball Jan. 10 at home. The Tanagers shot an impressive 61 percent from the field in the contest.

Vermillion's Doug Hanson was 3 of 4 on three-pointers and 8 of 18 overall, with 21 points, 3 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocked shots and 4 rebounds while playing for less than half the game.

The Tanagers jumped in front 26-9 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 52-18 at halftime, and then led 71-40 going into the final period.

The Tanagers committed only 5 turnovers in the victory.

"In the first half, we played great, intensive defense," said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. "However, in the second half, we let up a bit. We played well, but we must stay intense for four quarters."

In the first two periods, Doug Hanson opened the game with a three-pointer and followed with 7 more points in the first quarter. Also Beau Blouin and Nick Hovden scored 7 points each.

In the first two periods, Jordan Thompson scored 8 points, and Blouin scored 6.

VHS improved its season mark to 3-2, while Bon Homme fell to 2-5.

VHS connected on 20 of 35 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 33 of 54 from the field, while Bon Homme was 19 of 53 from the field. The Cavaliers hit 15 of 31 free throw attempts.
