Vermillion takes Beresford tourney Vermillion's seventh-grade boys basketball team took first place in the Beresford tournament last Saturday.
In the first game the Tanagers played a well-balanced offensive game to beat Alcester-Hudson 39-31. They started the game with a 10-0 run and coasted through the rest of the game.
Tyler Brown led the Tanagers with 9 points, while three others scored 6 each.
In the championship game against Beresford, the Tanagers relied on great pressure defense and balanced scoring to win 45-36. Trevor Garrett led the charge with 10 points, while Brown added 8 and Jason Holoch had 7. Ten players scored in the game.
The Tanagers travel to Canton on Saturday, Jan. 30 for another tournament.
