Watchdogs' rally defeats Vermillion The VHS freshmen Tanagers ended up on the wrong side of a second-half rally and were defeated by the Beresford High School Watchdogs 34-27 in boys basketball Jan. 15 at Beresford.

Vermillion had led by one at halftime.

"Offensively, we came out and struggled against their zone defense," said Vermillion Coach Devin Schwiesow. "Defensively, we played a pretty sound game, however, due to a lack of intensity we fell to the Watchdogs."

The Tanagers fell behind 10-8 after the first quarter, led 17-16 at halftime, and then trailed 27-21 going into the final period.

Each team now has a record of 4-2.

Vermillion hit 1 of 3 free throw tries while the Watchdogs hit 8 of 12 free throw tries.

The Tanagers will play Yankton on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Vermillion.
