Well have 75 to 100 items for the auction, said Leo Powell, a member of the Clay County Veterans Memorial Committee. Were thankful for the generosity of those who donated. They welcomed us with open arms.
The Clay County Veterans Memorial will be located on the southeast corner of the Clay County Courthouse grounds in Vermillion. It will feature the three monuments donated to the city in 1995 by the late Kenneth Mockler, the American flag, service flags for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, and the veterans monument from Prentis Park. Benches and planters will surround the patio area.
The memorial will cost an estimated $50,000 to build.
To date, weve received $13,500, Powell said. Were hoping the benefit will bring us closer to our goal.
