Driver's ed bill killed again by Andrea Skalland Drivers education will not be required by the state of South Dakota.
The House failed a bill Feb. 16 that would have required students to take drivers education before they could obtain a drivers license.
Rep. Richard Brown, R-Sioux Falls, reintroduced HB 1067, a bill that would require all schools to offer drivers education. The full House originally killed the bill.
This is about public safety and saving the lives of young drivers, Brown said.
The bill would have required that schools offer drivers education. If a student did not take the course he could not receive his regular drivers license until he was 18.
The bill failed to receive the required two-thirds majority vote. The vote was 36-33.
