Fourth quarter push leads to win The VHS JV Basketball Tanagers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Custer High School JV Wildcats 75-62 in boys basketball Feb. 6 at Custer.
The Vermillion JV had led by only one in the third period.
Jeremy Cowman played an exceptional game. He had 6 steals, 8 assists and 6 boards.
"Once again, Bo Nelson dominated in his two quarters of play, scoring 30 points," said Vermillion JV Coach Lance Luitjens.
This game was played in Coach Luitjens' home town. The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 10-4.
The Tanager JV jumped in front 18-15 after the first quarter, went into the locker room up 30-29 at halftime, and then led 57-48 going into the final period.
The Vermillion JV made 16 of 21 from the line while the Wildcats sank 23 of 30 from the line.
A number of excellent individual efforts highlighted the win.
"Derrick Brown played another solid game distributing and handling the ball well," Coach Luitjens said. "He had 7 key free throws in the fourth quarter."
