Free throws key to Tanager JV win The VHS JV Tanagers pulled away in the last stanza to beat the Madison JV Bulldogs 55-47 in boys basketball Feb. 18 at Madison.
Vermillion JV had led by only two heading into the final quarter.
Eddie Filipovic had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
"Madison couldn't stop Eddie inside," said Vermillion JV Coach Lance Luitjens. "He had a great game for us."
The Tanager JV jumped in front 10-9 at the end of the first period, led 29-23 after the second quarter, and then led 37-35 going into the fourth quarter.
"This was a hard fought game," said Coach Luitjens. "Free throws made the difference."
Vermillion JV improved its record to 15-4, while Madison dropped to 9-3.
Vermillion JV sank 12 of 12 free throw attempts while the Bulldogs connected on 14 of 19 free throw attempts.
