Getches to guest lecture on Indian law at USD University of Colorado School of Law Professor David Getches will give his perspective about the U.S. Supreme Court's interpretation of Indian Law during a lecture at The University of South Dakota on March 1.
Getches, the Raphael J. Moses Professor of Natural Resources Law at the university, will address "The Rehnquist Court's Disregard of Fundamental Principles in Indian Law" at 9 a.m. in Room 101 of the USD School of Law. The event is open to the public. In his lecture, Getches will discuss whether the Supreme Court's recent departures from 170 years of precedent in Indian law, to arrogate to itself the making of Indian policy instead of deferring to Congress, can be identified with any broader trends or philosophies in Supreme Court jurisprudence.
The event is sponsored by the Visiting Scholars Program, USD Office of Research.
