Holoch performs in honor choir Zachary Holoch, son of Duane and Connie Holoch of Vermillion, traveled to Sioux Falls this past weekend to perform at the South Dakota American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Mid-Winter Convention. Zach was one of the 100 voices selected from 500 7th-9th grade auditions from across the state.
Zach began rehearsal at 1:00 p.m on Friday, Jan. 22, and put in a total of nine rehearsal hours to prepare for the Grand Concert on Jan. 23, at Washington High School in Sioux Falls. Director Dr. James Rodde, associate professor and director of choral studies at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND was the honored junior choir director.
The junior high choir sang Alleluia! Sing Praise, by J. S. Bach; Welcome, Sweet Pleasures by Weelkes/Rodde; White Horses by Walker/ text by e. d. cummings; Jamaican Market Place by Farrow; City Called Heaven, a spiritual song and Niska Banja by Nick Page, the very same composer who gave us, Love The Earth, our commissioned piece from last season.
Zachary has been a member of the Yankton Children's Choir for four years. This is his first honor choir appearance. The Yankton Children's Choir traveled to Brookings on Feb. 1, to perform at the South Dakota Music Educators Conference.
