Madison Bulldogs nip Tanager freshmen 39-38 The VHS freshmen Tanagers lost a second-half lead and were nipped by the Madison High School Bulldogs 39-38 in boys basketball Feb. 18 at Madison.
Vermillion had led by three at halftime.
"Despite the hard luck loss, we played our best game of the year," said Vermillion Coach Devin Schwiesow. "We played very well as a team both offensively and defensively. We had a chance to tie or win the game with a last second shot, however, we failed to execute. I was very satisfied with the effort."
The Tanagers led 13-10 after the opening period, led 22-19 at halftime, and the contest was deadlocked 30-30 after the third quarter.
The loss dropped Vermillion to a record of 7-7, while MHS freshmen improved to 12-4.
Vermillion hit 2 of 6 three-point attempts and hit 8 of 16 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 14 of 34 field goal attempts, while MHS freshmen was 13 of 32 from the field. MHS freshmen made 3 of 7 three-point tries and hit 10 of 24 from the line.
