Nominating petitions are ready for local elections Vermillion and Wakonda area residents are reminded that they can become involved in city and school government.
The following elections and vacancies have been announced:
City of Vermillion:
Four seats on the Vermillion City Council will be open for election on April 13 this year. Terms expiring include Central (Leo Powell), Northeast (Kevin Annis), Northwest (LeRoy Backhaus) and Southeast (Frank Slagle). These are all two-year terms.
Nominating petitions can be picked up at the City Finance Office at City Hall, 25 Center Street. They can be circulated starting Feb. 12. Potential nominees must obtain 50 signatures of registered voters from their ward and file the petition in the office of the finance officer between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. no later than March 12.

Vermillion School Board:
One position will be open on the Vermillion School Board as Jim Kinney's three-year term expires. Nominating petitions can be picked up at the office of the Vermillion School District business manager, 17 Prospect.
They can be circulated starting Feb. 12 and must be filed with the business manager between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. no later than March 12.

Town of Wakonda:
The Town of Wakonda will hold an election April 13 for one trustee for a three-year term. Charlie Logue's term will expire this year. Nominating petitions may be filed with Wakonda's finance officer no more than 40 days nor less than 20 days preceding the day of election.
