S.D. Public Television hosts Williams & Ree: No Contest! South Dakota Public Television is inviting communities throughout the state to join forces for the Williams & Ree: No Contest! during the network's March 1999 Festival pledge drive. The winners will get a chance to shine in the new Williams & Ree movie to be taped this spring. Winners will be announced on air March 14.
The contest offers three winning communities in South Dakota a chance to be in pictures:
1) The community that pledges the most dollars per capita for the contest.
2) The community that has the most pledges per capita for the contest.
3) The community that writes the most original essay on why it should be featured in the new Williams & Ree movie.
South Dakota's favorite comedy team will be in the SDPTV studios for a special on March 7 during SDPTV's Festival pledge drive. The show at 7 p.m. will feature live antics plus two previously taped Williams & Ree films. A taped repeat is scheduled at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.
Williams and Ree bill themselves as "The Indian and the White Guy," but they make it a point to make fun of everyone.
Bruce Williams and Terry Ree have a strong connection to South Dakota. They met at Black Hills State College in Spearfish. Their first venture together was a band, but eventually, their humor and jokes between songs and sets became more popular than the band. They appeared often at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles during the 1970s. Since then, they have played across the nation, performing at concerts featuring acts such as Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys and Randy Travis. They have appeared on The Nashville Network and have been featured performers for South Dakota Public Television's pledge drives for three years.
