Seventh grade wins The seventh-grade boys basketball team brought home another trophy after winning the Canton tournament last Saturday.
In the first game the Tanagers played the host team Canton. The pressure defense helped them go into halftime with a 24-8 lead. The Tanagers then coasted to a 45-29 victory. The total team effort showed as nine different players scored, led by Tyler Brown, Max Swanson, and Jason Holoch who each added 8 points.
The intensity stayed with the Tanagers as they took the championship game over Tea 38-22. A 7-0 run was put on in the last minute of the first half to take a 19-10 lead. The momentum carried over as the defense allowed only 2 third- quarter points. Trevor Garrett and Nathan Boots led the scoring with 9 each. Jared Burcham also added 6 as the Tanagers took their second tournament in as many weekends.
On Monday the Tanagers traveled down to Dakota Valley and beat the hapless Panthers 41-33, although the score is much closer than the game actually was. Garrett led the way with 13 points, as 13 players scored for the Tanagers. They will host the Yankton Bucks on Thursday, Feb. 11.
