Tanager JV rally beats Patriots The VHS JV Basketball Tanager JV rallied to beat the Douglas High School Patriots 51-45 in boys basketball Feb. 5 at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
Vermillion JV had trailed by 4 at halftime.
Bo Nelson scored 23 points in two quarters, 14 points in the third period, and had 2 assists, 1 steal and 5 rebounds.
"They couldn't stop Bo Nelson Friday night and the team did a nice job of getting him the ball," said Vermillion JV Coach Lance Luitjens.
Douglas JV jumped in front 17-14 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 10-9 in the second quarter. Vermillion JV had an advantage of 20-10 in the third period to take a lead of 43-37 going into the final period.
"The kids played well in the second half, once they got the trip out of them," said Coach Luitjens.
Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 9-4.
Vermillion JV made 10 of 18 free throw attempts while the Patriots sank 5 of 9 from the line.
The Tanager JV had several important contributors in the close win.
"Eddie Filipovic had 5 steals, 2 assists, 1 blocked shot and scored 9 points," Coach Luitjens said.
