Tanager JV victorious over Canton C-Hawks The VHS Tanager JV rolled over the Canton High School junior varsity C-Hawks 50-33 in boys basketball Jan. 29 at Vermillion.

Jeremi Cowman scored 15 points, and had 6 steals and 4 assists.

"Jeremy played a solid game, playing 31 of 32 minutes," said Vermillion JV Coach Lance Luitjens.

The Tanager JV took the lead 14-11 after the first quarter, and margins of 12-6 and 15-8 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 41-25 going into the final period.

The Tanager JV committed only 9 turnovers while forcing 22.

"The kids did a nice job playing through injuries," said Coach Luitjens.

Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 8-4, while CHS JV fell to 3-9.

Vermillion JV sank 1 of 6 three-point tries and made 7 of 13 from the line. The Tanager JV made 21 of 50 field goal attempts, while CHS JV was 10 of 28 from the field. CHS JV sank 0 of 3 three-point tries and sank 13 of 21 free throw tries.

On Feb. 5, the Tanagers will be at Douglas, and on Feb. 6, they will play Custer, the home town of Coach Luitjens.
