Tanagers victorious in Bon Homme match by David Lias The Vermillion Tanagers defeated Bon Homme 13-15, 15-10, 15-4 in varsity volleyball action Jan. 28 in Tyndall.

The Tanagers made 70 of 79 serves, or 89 percent, with 8 aces. Leading servers were Shorey Tuetken, 16 of 19 with 3 aces and 10 points; Melissa Rydell, 13 of 13 with 2 aces and 7 points scored; Amanda Iverson, 11 of 12 with 5 points scored; and Jana Prasek, 10 of 13 with 2 aces and 5 points.

"We came back strong after Monday's loss," Coach Judy Zeller said. "Our defense was really good in this match led by Burcham with 27 digs, Iverson with 16, and Tuetken with 15."

Tuetken was leading setter for the Tanagers, with 88 sets and 22 assists. The team made 93 of 95 sets and had 23 assists.

The Tanagers made 112 of 129 attacks, or 87 percent, with 31 kills. Attack leaders were Iverson, with 45 attacks and 11 kills; Prasek, with 15 attacks and 5 kills; Leslie Larson, with 16 attacks and 5 kills; Laura Burcham, with 18 attacks and 4 kills; Tuetken, with 15 attacks and 3 kills; and Rydell, with 13 attacks and 3 kills.

"Our teamwork was also really strong in this match; they communicate really well," Zeller said. "Bon Homme is a strong, consistent team and we had a chance to win this match."
