Vermillion JV loses finale by David Lias The Vermillion junior varsity volleyball squad lost its last match of this year's season to Yankton 10-15, 8-15, in action at Vermillion Feb. 8.

The Tanagers made 32 of 42 serves, with 5 aces. Leading servers were Elly Kjose, 9 of 12 with 2 aces and 7 points scored; and Jackie Powell, 8 of 8 with 4 points scored.

Vermillion completed 48 of 53 attacks, and made 18 kills. Attack leaders were Jackie Powell, who was 6 of 7 with 4 kills; Leslie Larson, 7 of 7 with 4 kills; and Lana Larson, 17 of 19 with 5 kills.

The Tanagers made 6 of 6 blocks, with 6 ace blocks. Block leaders were Larson, with 2 assisted blocks, and Johnson, with 2 assisted blocks.

"I am very pleased with the way the girls played against Yankton. They are a bigger, more intimidating squad and we stepped up to the challenge," said Coach Jennifer Cholensky. "With a fewer missed serves and a little more communication, who knows what would have happened."
